SHORTHIVE FAQS

HONEY:

How is honey best stored?

Honey is best stored at room temperature but if you like your honey a little runnier, store it in a warm part of the kitchen. Do not allow water into your honey and when not in use, leave the lid closed. Do not heat your honey above 55 degrees Celsius.

Why does my honey crystallise?

It is normal for honey to crystallise, and honey from different blossoms will crystallise at different rates. Crystallised honey is still totally edible and some people prefer it that way. To return to a liquid state, place the bottle in warm water and heat up to about 55 degrees Celsius for one hour or until it has liquefied to your satisfaction. Stirring the honey or shaking the bottle can speed up the process.

How do I open the squeeze bottle?

The bottle is sealed by an anti-tamper foil seal. Unscrew the lid, peel off the seal, and discard it. Replace the lid firmly.

Why has my lid become blocked?

Sometimes infused honey will begin to crystallise inside the lid even if the remainder is still liquid. We suggest you remove the lid, wash it in warm water and thoroughly dry before returning it to the bottle. Alternatively, you could warm the bottle up to 50 degrees Celsius to melt the honey - see 'Why does my honey crystallise?'

What is the shelf life of your honey?

Stored correctly, with a closed lid to prevent moisture from entering, honey has an indefinite shelf life. Some people prefer to consume their infused honey before it can become crystallised, however crystallised honey remains fully edible and can be returned to a liquid state - see ‘Why does my honey crystallise?’

Where does your honey come from?

All ShortHive honey is 100% Australian, sourced primarily from the Otway and Corangamite districts in South Western Victoria.

Why are there small variations in flavour between batches?

ShortHive Honey is a natural artisan product. All ShortHive batches contain slight differences due to seasonal variations, which affect the nectar, the pollen, and the bees themselves. There may also be slight variations in the flavours of the premium ingredients used.

Is honey healthy?

We believe honey is a natural food and can definitely be included in a healthy diet. Claimed health benefits of honey include antibiotic properties and significant levels of antioxidants. Some guidelines advise against giving honey to infants.

I live outside of Australia. Can I purchase your honey?

It may be possible to post honey overseas, however it is your responsibility to check all customs and quarantine requirements. We are not responsible for any customs or quarantine fees or penalties. Please contact us directly at hello@shorthive.com.au for a quote for postage and shipping.

WHO IS SHORTHIVE?:

ShortHive is a family owned and operated business. Our grandfather has been a beekeeper for over 50 years, and in 2016 the idea of infusing honey was first discussed around our farm table. The owners bring a variety of different educational backgrounds and experience in several industries. Together, working in cooperation with our bees, we bring you the best-infused honey available. Does ShortHive own its own bees?

Yes. Our beehives are kept on the family farm in the Corangamite district of South Western Victoria. Some of our hives are moved to various locations in South Western Victoria according to seasonal fluctuations in local pollen and nectar-producing plants.
